This post was so interesting to me. I'm in a research field vaguely related to CAR-T cells and it's so nice to get a more human angle to what is stored under 'CAR T' in my brain.
I personally don't like any day that are 'about' me, so I'm not big on birthdays. I try to be better though. My grandmother died 10 years ago on my grandfather's birthday and he hadn't celebrated it for a decade because of that. But he started again last year (at 96!!). It's never too late :)
Well, considering he *is* 96 the party was moderately wild. We gifted him Spotify because his eyes have gotten too bad to read. We stumbled upon a public playlist of one of my brothers together and we anticipated a culture clash, but grandpa recognized Wu Tang Clan immediately (for some reason)!
I use some of the same techniques used to transform normal T cells into CARs!
And a great point, I saved the dates of my diagnosis and surgery in my Google calendar, also maybe more as a reminder that it could be worse and that I made it another year. Interested to see how long I keep that date where I'm reminded of it.
Happy re-birthday. I'm terrible about remembering significant dates like this, but I love knowing/being reminded of them to celebrate for and with other people. Even when they are sad anniversaries, they deserve a moment, and birthdays and things obviously (to me) at least deserve cake. I have a friend who has a tradition of spending his birthday with himself, going to a specific doughnut shop, and then a movie. It's his protected time with himself and it feels very sweet to me. So birthday and re-birthday however feels right to you!!!!
I made myself go for a run, which was a nice reminder that I could. And I think you're right, it's nice to remind myself that it deserves a moment. Then I swapped a cheeseburger for a cake, and it was good. Thanks again, hope you're doing well.
First of all, happy belated second rebirthday!

That's great. Ten years off of a birthdays must make for quite the birthday once he started back up again...
And if I can ask, what's your CAR-T adjacent research field? I'm obviously a big fan of anything near or adjacent. Thanks for reading!

Definitely The reminder has had good years and bad years popping up. I think I'll keep it for now...

Happy re-Birthday to you, Elliott. Hope you had a GREAT day🙂
Thanks Lessly! It was another day, which made it great.
Happy Re-Birthday. Just think they've been doing these transplants with success for, I think, only about forty years.
Very true. Have to believe it's all up from here. Hope you're doing well!
